March 17 (UPI) -- Google celebrated the Irish national holiday and official Christian feast day of St. Patrick's Day with a Doodle on Tuesday, March 17.
The artwork was created to look like a tea towel with green embroidery on a white background.
The word "Google" is spelled with a shamrock substituting the first "O."
Other tiny, green, three-leaved plants, crosses and Celtic designs appear to be stitched along the border.
The holiday is named for the patron saint of Ireland, who is believe to have died on March 17 in the year of 461.
It also is celebrated with parades, church services, feasts and wearing green clothing in the United States, Europe and Australia.
